should i lose weight for a theatre art school?
ok, so i'm going to this art school for theatre/drama. i have a pretty average body size ( B= 35" W = 30" H= 35") and I was wondering if I should lose some weight to make SURE i can fit into their costumes and do all of the things their classes require me to do as well as i can. i have a pretty high energy level as it is when it comes to performing, but i just wanted to ask if i should lose a bit just to be safe.

Well, The entertainment business is requiring more and more "perfect bodies every day". If you are a good actress but you are not slim, may be you can be "good at character roles". In My Opinion you are not fat, 35" 30" 35" is not a slim model type but you are not a fat woman. However, you will fit better the costumes if you are slim or skinny. I have never being slim in my life, my body type is same as yours. I had a problem just once. I made an audition for a new Opera in Puerto Rico, every body loved my voice but they though I did not have the "right look" for the role. I was too short, too dark and too fat for the role. At the end they call me and gave me the role any way! So as you see even in the Opera world we face these problems too. If you are planning to lose weight then my advice is to do it in a healthy way. You can walk every day, to walk is an excellent aerobic exercises and that will help you with your stamina on stage, eat healthy, drink water, do some stretch exercises every day, to be flexible on stage is good thing. I would recommend you to do PILATES, that is an excellent exercises to make your body strong, burn calories, look better and feel better. Please don't stop eating, just modify your diet. If you think to lose weight will help you in your acting, then go for it girl! Good Luck!

That depends on a bunch of things. The first is: are you healthy? Stay around theatre for awhile and you will start to realize that what you are talking about is not a sprint...it's a career you're planning on doing for a long time (hopefully). Having a high energy level and self confidence are not negotiable...they're necessary. So, if you need to get yourself into better shape...you're body is, as they say, your instrument. As far as specific roles and body type...that greatly depends on your "type." Are you a leading lady? An ingenue? or are you a character actor? If you fall (and this is something you need to try to be honest to yourself about) into one of the first two categories...know they will be looking for pretty people. This doesn't mean twig people...Sherry Rene Scott is curvaceous and is a very successful leading lady. However, if you are more the character actor type (and this is in no way a "second-fiddle" sort of gig...there are a hell of a lot of roles for character actors and good one is worth their weight in gold)...a little pudge can actually be an asset. The most important thing: you have to be comfortable in your own skin.

losing a couple pound wouldn't hurt, but it all depends on what you're planning to have as your focus. If it's musical theatre, then work on maintaining your current weight. If you have to lift someone in the air, or be lifted in the air, you don't want it to be too difficult.
